Easter Newsletter 2017

Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. Time is flying around and we have been so busy over the past couple of months.

All the classes took part in gymnastics with Mrs Feehan in January and February. The girls really enjoyed it and it was amazing how much they improved over the 6 weeks.

In February we had a silver and gold medal winner in the Community Games Art competition. Millie Grennan won gold in the under 8 category

and Maja Ubowska won silver in the under 14 category. Well done to them.

Our choir attended the Peace Proms workshop and performance in University of Limerick.  They performed brilliantly and were a credit to the school.

We have been working very hard towards our 4th Green Flag Award – Transport. We had a great Green schools’ Review Day with Mieke, we had a Green Schools’ Table Quiz and on March 16th, we had our action day. We combined this with our sponsored walk. Even though it lashed rain on us, we valiantly walked our chosen route and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to Mieke and the parents who walked with us and to all who sent back their sponsorship cards. Your support ensures we can continue to provide the girls with great experiences in the school.

Camoige has re – started and Ms. Teehan, Ms. Quinlan and Barry Kinsella are working hard with the team. The girls won their first match against Killeen N.S. and have 2 more matches to go.  Hughie is also back, training on Tuesdays.

We are dancing! Kevin is back and the girls are having a ball. We look forward to the display in May – hopefully we will get another fine day and will perform in the yard.

5th class are enjoying Cycle Safety workshops and are learning a lot about how to cycle safely and correctly on the roads.

5th class took part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme and what a success it was! Their project was called “Sign Design” – personalised wooden signs. They sold over €900 worth of signs and cleared a profit of €650.

They are making a €100 donation to Aoibheann’s Pink Tie and are planning a day out in Bay Sports, Athlone as a celebration. Huge congratulations to them. Their teacher Mrs Fitzgerald put in an enormous amount of work to ensure the class got the most out of the programme and we are very grateful to her. Have a look at the website  – www.mercyprimaryschool.ie to see their article and photographs.

World Book Day was held on March 6th. The students and staff made a great effort to dress up as book characters. We had a wonderful day with guest readers, a table quiz and all sorts of fun in the classrooms. The pictures on the website speak for themselves!

Bhí a lán spraoi agus craic againn i rith Seachtain na Gaeilge damhsa, comhrá, dánta, tráth na gceist agus rudaí mar sin. Bhí an seachtain go hálainn. Labhair Gaeilge linn!

2nd class celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday 14th March. It was a lovely ceremony. Thanks to the Parents’ Association for providing tea and treats afterwards.

The women’s Rugby World Cup visited on March 30th. It was great fun to see.

We have had SEAI Energy workshops, trips to the library, trips to the theatre to name but a few of the activities going on. We are a very busy bunch!

The highlight of our term came on Tuesday 28th March – Grandparents’ Day. This is always a wonderful celebration and this year was no exception. 2nd and 6th Class performed for their Grandparents and it was a very special day. Thanks to Ms Treacy, Ms Hennelly, Ms Kennedy and Ms Ryan for their hard work. There are gorgeous pictures on the website and outside the office.

Easter is coming!

We close for the holidays on Friday April 7th at 12:20 pm and will re – open on Monday 24th. We wish you a peaceful and enjoyable holiday and look forward to a jam packed final term.
