The pupils in 4th and 5th Class enjoyed Engineering Week this month. They went to the theatre and attended a workshop entitled ‘So You Want to be a Superhero’? Here they learned about different types of engineers and the work they do. Back in the classroom the girls took part in some engineering tasks.

World Book Day was celebrated this month. The students dressed up as their favourite book character and they enjoyed many reading and writing activities. Mrs. Murray was a guest reader and she read Heidi to 4th Class. The girls really enjoyed this popular classic and afterwards they designed their own Heidi book cover. The pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th took part in a Book Day table quiz. Thanks to our quizmistress Mrs. Dermody for organsing it! And well done to the winning team.

Seachtain na Gaeilge was celebrated this month too. The children made a huge effort to speak more Gaeilge during the week. We sang songs, read and dramatised stories and poems, learned tin whistle tunes and we learned some Irish dances in PE class. The girls performed these for their parents and friends in the concert.

The girls also wrote their own Irish books and entered them into the Scriobh Leabhar competition. The books were written and illustrated beautifully. Well done to all. Our winners attended an Awards Ceremony in The Heritage Hotel in Portlaoise and received medals and certificates. Every child received a prize pack and certificate for taking part.

4th and 5th took part in the INTO handwriting competition this month. They had to write a letter to their French friend telling them all about St. Patrick and how we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and write it in their best handwriting. The girls wrote their letters very carefully and neatly.

We also made fabulous cards for Mothers’ day.
