Easter Newsletter.

March has been an incredibly busy month with many fun and exciting activities going on.

On Friday 1st March, 6th class went for a very interesting and informative talk in the library as part of National Engineers Week.

On Monday 4th March, 5th and 6th classes started Tag Rugby with coach David Farrelly. We hope to continue these classes after Easter.

On Tuesday 5th March we had our LOW ENERGY DAY, as we are working towards our Green Flag. It was an amazing and unusual day. We had no lights, computers, interactive whiteboards, CD players, the teachers had no kettle, microwave or dishwasher in the staffroom! 5th class have been taking the meter readings every day. Usually, we use approximately 100 units per day. On our Low Energy Day, we used only 14 units. We were amazed at the difference and how much energy we saved.

On Friday 7th March we had WORLD BOOK DAY and what a day we had! The teachers all dressed up as book characters and so did a lot of the children. Everyone looked wonderful. We had buddy reading, guest readers, we watched World Book Day interviews on the interactive whiteboards and had table quizzes based on books. It was hugely enjoyable and very educational.

On Saturday 9th March our 8 girls in 6th class – Music Mayhem, scooped a runner-up prize in the Excellent Factor. Well done girls! Also well done to Na Damhsóirí Windsor, 6 of who were from Mercy Primary, who actually won the Excellent Factor. Comhgairdeas libh.

On Monday 11th March we had a visit from the Heineken Cup. We were delighted to have the cup here and got some great photographs.

That afternoon we had a wonderful drumming performance from the girls in 4th and 6th classes under the guidance of their instructor Eddie O Neill. It was amazing to hear how much they had learned in such a short space of time. We look forward to having Eddie back with us again.

On Tuesday 12th March, 2nd class celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They sang beautifully, said their prayers very well and were a credit to their families and the school. Congratulations to them. Well done to Mrs. De Chaumont for preparing them so well.

On Thursday 14th March, 6th class took their Entrance Exam for St. Brendan’s Community School.

Friday 15th March – Lá Gaeilge. Bhí ceolchoirm againn sa halla agus bhí gach rang ar fheabhas. We had “Irish Day” and had a concert in the school hall. Everyone took part and all classes were excellent.

On Tuesday March 19th, 6th class visited Kilmainham Gaol as part of the School Completion Programme. They had a great day.

On Friday 22nd we have our visit from An Taisce to see how we are getting on with our Energy Flag. Hopefully they will be happy with all the work we have been doing.

Our Lenten fundraising for Uganda has been marvellous and it looks like we will have €1000 to send. That will educate so many children and provide clean water for so many people. We also donated €100 to NCBI. Well done to all for being so generous.

The Board of Management are delighted that our new CCTV cameras are installed and are up and running. The safety of our girls is of utmost importance and having CCTV will safeguard our pupils and school.

PHEW! What an exhausting month! Everyone in Mercy Primary is looking forward to the Easter holidays – children and teachers. We will recharge our batteries and prepare for a busy final term.

The girls can continue wearing their tracksuits to school until the weather improves and is warmer. We will let them know when they should start wearing their uniforms again.

Birr Tidy Towns is holding a parent and child clean-up day on Good Friday. More details will be in the Midland Tribune.

Mrs. Larkin, Ms. Cleary and Ms. O Brien have finished with us and we wish them the best of luck.

School closes at 12.15 on Friday and re-opens on Monday 8th April.

Happy Easter and enjoy the break.
