Mercy Primary School Newsletter

February 2014

Welcome to February’s newsletter. As usual, it has been a very busy month here in Mercy Primary School.

We started the month with Science for Fun in 4th class. This ran for 5 Mondays and was hugely successful. Thanks to Mrs. Fitzgerald, HSCL for organising this and thanks to the parents who came in and helped out.

We sent 2 teams to the Credit Union Table Quiz and both teams did very well. The girls behaved excellently and represented the school very well.

On Thursday 6th February the school choir headed to Kilkenny for a workshop for the Peace Proms concert. It was a great day and the girls got an idea of what the concert would be like. They were very excited and were looking forward to the real thing!

On 12th of February, 6th class visited the library for a talk on Engineers Week. It was very good and the girls really enjoyed it. We are very grateful to the library staff for all the activities they organise for us.

Junior and Senior Infant Parent/Teacher meetings were held in February and there was great attendance at these meetings.

We sent out a School Uniform Survey in February and the final results of this survey will be posted in the March newsletter.

On February 25th, 7 students along with Mrs. Murray went to the library to meet the author Oisín McGann. He was brilliant and the girls really enjoyed themselves.

The big day finally arrived – March 1st and the Peace Proms Concert in Kilkenny. What a day was had and what an experience! It was amazing. The Cross Border Orchestra, conducted by the highly acclaimed Gearóid Grant was brilliant. There was a solo violinist, Patricia Treacy, a tenor, Emmanuel Lawlor and a piper, Patrick Martin. To top it all off we had the Royal Scottish Pipe Band, Northern Ireland Branch. As for the choirs, all the children sang beautifully and gave it their all. As for the girls of Mercy Primary – they were super! They sang their hearts out, danced their socks off and behaved brilliantly. We, the teachers were so proud of them on the day.

We have lots coming up in March – World Book Day, Seachtain na Gaeilge and Lent!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Kearns’ Buses. We desperately needed new camogie jerseys in the school and Kearns’ helped us fund the cost of them. We now have a beautiful new set of jerseys and the girls will be very proud to wear them while representing the school. Míle buíochas!
