What a Concert!

On Saturday 26th April, Mercy Primary School Choir held a concert in St. Brendan’s Church. We were honoured and thrilled to welcome Anima Chamber Choir from Dublin.

What an afternoon! The concert was a huge success and we were delighted with the crowd that came to support us.

Anima Chamber Choir, Dublin, under the guidance of Bernard Sexton started the concert with 4 Madrigals. They were all based on the theme of love.

Mercy Primary School Choir sang 8 pieces:

D’Amhráin – Your Song in Irish

The Offaly Rover

Cailín na Gaillimhe – This is an Irish version of The Galway Girl, made famous by local man Mundy

Mo Ghile Mear – a  beautiful Irish song. The girls did a wonderful job on it.

It’s Time by Imagine Dragons – this was a lovely piece and some of the girls played the cups on the altar rails!

The Power of One – this was one of the pieces we  learned for the Cross Border Peace Proms.

An Dornálaí – The Boxer

Siyahamba – This is a South African Freedom Song. It was a show-stopper!!!

At that stage we handed back to Anima, who sang some beautiful pieces, including:  I Got Rhythm, Over the Rainbow, Moon River, Tea for Two, Let’s Do It, And So It Goes and a wonderful version of Molly Malone.

The concert finished with the choirs combining their talents by singing:

  1. The World in Union – this was another piece learned for the Peace Proms.
  2. Reprise of Siyahamba – we taught Anima this piece in 5 minutes.

It was a fantastic experience for the girls and all really enjoyed it. Ms. Treacy, Ms. Ryan, Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Hanamy were so proud of the choir – the way they performed and the way they behaved. They were a credit to their school and to their parents.

The members of Anima Chamber Choir complimented Mercy Primary School choir and were amazed at how good they were. They really enjoyed their visit to Birr and look forward to returning in the future.
