World Book Day

WORLD BOOK DAY

IN

MERCY PRIMARY SCHOOL, BIRR.

World Book Day on Thursday 5th March was a fantastic success in Mercy Primary School.  All the teachers and most of the children dressed up as book characters.  Everyone made a huge effort.  Scooby Doo, Pinocchio and countless princesses roamed the school for the day.  Mary Poppins, Minnie Mouse and lots of minions came to school too.

The day started with Buddy Reading – older pupils read for younger children.  This was very entertaining and the little girls had a wonderful time as they listened to their buddies and shared all sorts of fairy stories.

After that, it was time for Guest Readers to go into each classroom.  They read some great stories to the girls who enjoyed them very much.  This was followed by art and other activities related to the stories in every classroom.

Later on, all classes read their new World Book Day publications.  All children did some activities based on their new books and this was very successful and really interesting.  Most of the classes googled the authors and illustrators that created their books.

In the afternoon, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes held a monster table quiz in the PE Hall. This was very entertaining.

Each child got a present to take home at the end of the day: a lovely new book to keep.  They were thrilled with it.

All in all, we had a wonderful day.  World Book Day at Mercy Primary School continues to be one of the highlights of our school year and we look forward to it next year.  Have a look at the school website to see more fantastic pictures from Mercy Primary School World Book Day.
