Bernard Dunne comes to Mercy Primary

We were delighted to welcome Bernard Dunne to Mercy Primary School on Friday 26th February. Bernard is a spokesperson for Carambola, the company that supply the lunches to all the girls in Mercy Primary School.

Bernard had  a very successful career as a boxer, becoming World Champion. He fought in a total of 30 fights and won 28 of them – wow! That’s some record.

Bernard talked to the girls about health and nutrition and the importance of what we eat and drink. He gave some scary statistics on the sugar content in some of our favourite drinks!  He also talked to the girls about never giving up if you want to do something. He said the most important thing in life is to try – things may not always work out but at least you can always say you have tried. He also talked about exercise and how important it is, especially when playing sport. He gave us a small demonstration.

There are very simple ways to exercise and these are as effective as joining the gym! The girls listened very attentively.

He brought up one of the girls to demonstrate some of the exercises that can be done – it was fun.

A couple of the girls did a project on Bernard and he was very impressed with them.

The girls from 4th, 5th & 6th sang “An Dornálaí” for him – they were really lovely.

2 of the girls sang “Molly Malone” as Bernard is from Dublin.

It was a great morning and we all really enjoyed meeting Bernard and listening to him talk.

Some of the staff got a photo too!

Thanks to Ms Treacy for organising the morning and to Carambola for bringing Bernard down.

A great morning was had!
