Fourth and Fifth class have had an action packed couple of months. Here’s just a snippet of what they’ve been doing.

We planted seeds in term three and they have started to grow. We are taking good care of them and our Sunflowers, Pansies and Jeepers Creepers will look lovely in our gardens for the summer holidays.

Fourth class completed projects on their home in SESE and the 3d display looked amazing.

We visited the playground and had lots of fun.

The girls took part in the Write a Book Competition recently. They planned, wrote, illustrated and published fantastic stories and they should be very proud of their work. Huge congratulations to Smilte who was the overall Merit winner and the Highly Commended writers were Dectera, Róisín Mc, Carmina, Lori, Grace C. and Shakira. Well done to all.
Fourth class celebrated Poetry Day where they read and composed Acrostic poems, Furniture poems and Limericks. They wrote excellent poems, some thoughtful and others very funny,  about their teacher, their friends and Fr. David.
The girls also celebrated Europe Day recently and Fourth class studied the country of Germany in SESE. They learned about its landscape, cities, rivers, language and food.
The girls have been working with local artist Caroline Conway for the last few weeks, learning about fashion, the art of printing and design. To celebrate Vótáil 100 the girls have designed an exhibition of paper dolls based on the “Famous and Notable” women of Birr. The exhibition entitled ‘Famous Fashionistas of Birr’ was on display in the school on Thursday 21st June and it will also be in Birr Library during Vintage Week and Heritage Week. Make sure to pop in and take a look. It really is a fantastic project. This art project was funded by Offaly County Council.
Today, Fourth and fifth went on the ‘Famous and Notables’ walking trail of Birr. They found some of the blue plaques which showed the homes of the women that they had studied for their art project.
As you can see we have been working very hard and we are looking forward to the summer holidays now. Enjoy the break and the lovely sunshine.
