National Tree Day 10th Oct.2013 in Fourth Class
National Tree Day fell on Thursday, 10th October this year so fourth class went on their autumn trail to Camcor Park.
Wellies – check!
Clipboards – check!
Raincoats – check!
We set off from our school after lunch and ‘trecked’ the long distance……across the road! We are so lucky to have such a beautiful amenity in our town. Ms. Treacy and Mrs. Murray (also wellie clad!) came with us. We scoured the park and found all kinds of leaves and berries and nuts. We found ivy, horse chestnuts, sycamore leaves, oak, alber, ash, bramble, holly, dog rose, magnolia and more. Who knew that Camcor Park was home to so many different types of tree and plant.
We made a circle round a tree and listened to a beautiful poem called ‘Leaves’ by Elsie N.Brady. Then after that lovely poem we changed the mood by stomping on the ground. Why you ask? To bring the worms to the surface of course. Some girls picked up worms, others ran away and a few tried to eat them!!! Ahhhhh!!!
Somebody got hungry!!
Ms. Treacy had made an Autumn Trail pack for everyone so we filled that out while we were there. We answered questions on all the different trees we found. We sketched a picture of our favourite tree and we did some bark and leaf rubbings. We had a super afternoon.
Tired but happy we returned to school!!
