Newsletter June 2013

Welcome to the final newsletter of 2013. Whew! What a busy year we have had. It is hard to believe that we are at the end of another school year. We are getting ready to say goodbye to our lovely 6th class and to welcome our new Junior Infants.

June has been a very busy month with lots of great activities ongoing in all classes. There have been school tours, trips to the castle, the library and the park.

6th class had their photograph taken with the staff on June 11th and this will hang in the school corridor for many years to come as a reminder of the lovely group of girls that are leaving us.

On 12th June, all our volunteer parents were invited to a “Thank you Breakfast”. Without the support of those parents we would be unable to run the projects that are so important to the school, such as the fruit scheme, Maths for Fun and the Reading Initiative. A huge thank you to all who give their time and support to us.

June 13th was a busy day. 1stclass went on their school tour to Turoe Pet Farm. They had a great day. We also welcomed our new

Junior Infants and their parents. It was great to see the girls meeting their teacher and getting to know one another. We look forward to having them in September.

On June 14th 3rd class went on their tour to Bunratty Castle and to Fossett’s Circus. The day was wet unfortunately, but the girls behaved very well and had a good time.

June 17th saw 5th class go on their tour with Birr Outdoor Education Centre. They enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

“Fred- The Party Professor” visited us on Tuesday June 18th and performed a show for us. All girls, from Junior Infants to 6th enjoyed the show and were astounded by Fred’s magic and musical abilities.

June 19th saw the two 4th classes head to Mount St. Joseph’s Monastery, Roscrea for their “Adventure World” tour. The girls had a great day.

We were very proud to present our first Choir Concert on Friday June 21st. Ms. Treacy and Ms. McDonnell have worked very hard with the girls since January and the concert was a huge success. The girls sang beautifully and performed a wide range of songs. A very talented crew! Well done to all involved.

June 25th – 6th class went on their school tour to Tayto Park. They had a ball!

June 26th – we were delighted to raise our second Green Flag. This flag is for Energy and we have worked very hard to achieve it. Ms. De Chaumont and the committee raised the flag. Huge thanks have to be given to Ms. De Chaumont for co-ordinating the committee and all the initiatives carried out.

Also on June 26th, we had the 6th class graduation ceremony. Well done to Ms. Hennelly and the class for the beautiful prayer service they held. The girls reflected on their years in Mercy Primary and treated us to some beautiful music and song. Fr. David had a blessing for them all. The girls received a goodie bag with a few mementos of their time here. We will miss the girls, wish them “Beannacht Dé” and the very best of luck in the future.

Míle Buíochas to Fr. David, our school chaplain for his involvement in our spiritual development and preparation for the sacraments.

Friday June 28th – HOLIDAYS! We will hold our final assembly and will give out Full and Almost Full Attendance certs to all classes. We will speed our girls on their way and wish them “happy holidays”.

We are lucky in Mercy Primary to have a very active and supportive Parents’ Association. They help us and support us

so much each year – thank you! A number of parents are moving on, as their children are leaving and we hope to welcome new parents onto the Association next year.

Our Board of Management works hard to ensure that Mercy Primary School is a safe environment for all the girls and we thank them for their continued support.

A special word of thanks to the staff who, despite huge cutbacks in Education, work with great dedication and professionalism. Nothing is too much for them and they constantly strive to give the girls the best education possible. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

We are very sad to say “Goodbye” to Mrs. Feehan, who has been working as an SNA with us for the past 9 years. She has been a very valued member of our staff and we are sorry to see her go. We wish her the very best of luck in the future.

Finally – school closes at 12.15 p.m. on Friday June 28th.

School re-opens on Monday September 2nd for all students.

Beir bua‘s beannacht i gcónaí.

Have a wonderful summer.
